Data Deletion

Last updated: September 2026

This page explains how to permanently delete your Banterball account and associated personal data under the GDPR and UK GDPR right to erasure. It also shows the status of Meta (Facebook) data-deletion callbacks when you open this page with a confirmation code.

Method A — Instant In-App Deletion

The fastest way to exercise your right to be forgotten is to delete the account yourself while signed in:

  1. Sign in to Banterball.
  2. Go to Profile.
  3. Open the Danger Zone section.
  4. Choose Delete Account.
  5. Type DELETE to confirm, then complete the deletion.

After a successful deletion we sign you out and erase associated personal data such as your profile, predictions, and group membership. Groups that still have other members are not deleted — admin rights transfer to the earliest remaining member.

Method B — External Status Check (Meta)

If you remove Banterball from Facebook Settings, Meta sends a data deletion callback to our servers. We delete the account linked to that Facebook user ID and return a status URL to Meta.

To check a Meta (or other external) deletion request, open this page with the confirmation code in the query string:

/data-deletion?code=YOUR_CONFIRMATION_CODE

Data Deletion Callback URL: /api/facebook/data-deletion

You can also query machine-readable status at /api/data-deletion/status?code=...

What we delete

  • Sign-in identities (Google, X / Twitter, Facebook, and others)
  • Profile, banter nickname, avatar, and favourite club
  • Prediction history and personal points
  • Your group memberships
  • Groups that have no remaining members

Groups that still have other members stay online. Season records that referenced you are re-pointed to the remaining group admin so the league can continue without your personal data.
